This Week in Toledo: Things to Do and Ways to Give
Happy Friday, Toledo! I hope this post finds you, your family and your friends doing well both physically and mentally. Being in isolation is no joke to deal with mentally, let alone if you or someone you know has had their health affected by this pandemic. Here’s to hoping that this will all start calming down and letting us get back in the groove of things soon. Until then, what can we look forward to this week? For starters, 419 day is this Sunday. Follow me on my social accounts because I’ll be sharing as much as I can about what businesses and residents are doing to celebrate this year!
So what’s fun this week in Toledo? Keep reading!
If you’re dreaming of all the summer fun that’s bound to come, maybe you’re craving a margarita to help you pretend we’re already enjoying warm, summer cookouts with friends. Toledo City Paper wrote a very good guide for the best margaritas to-go, which you may find helpful! (Thank you, Gov. DeWine for approving to-go cocktails!)
I also wanted to take this time and highlight the Toledo Farmer’s Market. They are open on Saturdays from 9am-1pm and they are doing a wonderful job at implementing social distancing rules. If you’ve been struggling to find produce and other essential at the big grocery stores in the area, consider checking them out!
The Ottawa Tavern is doing a live 419 Day celebration! With this, a Gofundme page has been set up to help raise funds for COVID relief during the event. The live streams will take place in the discussion tab of the Facebook event.
Livestream Toledo by Toledo.com is still doing their thing! There’s an awesome line up on their website to find out where to tune in.
Imagination Station has a “Stay at Home Science” page filled with fun activities to do at home.
The Toledo Zoo has home-cooked chef created meals available every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 pm! (Our zoo needs our support right now.)
The Toledo Zoo is also posting a lot of fun videos, livestreams and pictures of the animals during this time. It’s pretty cool to see some of their behind the scenes videos!
Again, a great group for finding new things for carry out can be found on Facebook in the group named Toledo “to go”. I encourage Northwest Ohio residents to use some of these more local delivery services if you opt for delivery: Deliver Toledo, Order on the Way, Dine in Delivery.
Ways to give back:
SeaGate Food Bank is hosting a “No Show Gala” to help fight childhood hunger (without getting dressed up!). This virtual fundraiser is running now until April 27th. Tickets give you the chance to win a prize!
ProMedica is collecting homemade fabric masks at bins near the entrances of many health facility locations. Click here for the information and locations.
Fowl and Fodder created a new service called 4-1-Dine. It’s an online shop selling groceries, everyday essentials (yes, like toilet paper) and meals. They deliver or you can pick up curbside at their downtown location. With that, the created The 4-1-Dine Community Care Fund with Mosaic Ministries to get meals to families who desperately need it. All orders over $44.19 will give $4.19 to the fund and you can choose to donate more at check out. Their goal is to raise $41,900 by 419 Day this Sunday!
Sylvania Nutrition is doing a Pay It Forward Program. You can select an essential worker and sponsor a tea (or 10!) to send to them! Check the details out here.
Jupmode launched a fundraiser for local businesses called “Here for Good”. Many businesses have designed shirts at Jupmode with their logos on them and each shirt sold give $10 directly to that business! How cool is that? Click here to shop!
United Way has a sign up page to volunteer to pass out meals to children in need in our area. You can also make a financial donation to them, here. Lastly, you can buy this special t-shirt form Jupmode and all proceeds will go to the United Way Emergency Response Fund, 2020.
